The Pekoe Trail is Sri Lanka’s only long-distance hiking route, stretching 300 km across 22 stages through the island’s breathtaking central highlands. Beginning in Hanthana near Kandy and ending at the Pedro Tea Estate in Nuwara Eliya, it winds through lush tea estates, misty forests, colonial-era towns, and remote villages an immersive journey into the heart of Sri Lanka’s hill country. Recognized by the Financial Times as one of the world’s five most incredible walks and developed with support from the European Union and USAID, the trail was created not only for adventure seekers but also to uplift rural communities along the way. Hikers can expect panoramic mountain views, cascading waterfalls, vibrant birdlife, grasslands, and even film locations from Indiana Jones and Elephant Walk. Linking the iconic destinations of Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, and Ella, the trail is suitable for both beginners and seasoned trekkers, whether for a single stage or the entire journey. With over 35 years of expertise, the Sri Lanka Trekking Club offers professional guided treks, full logistics, and authentic cultural encounters ensuring every journey along the Pekoe Trail is safe, enriching, and unforgettable.

Established in 1990, the Sri Lanka Trekking Club is one of the country’s pioneering trekking tour providers. This family-run initiative is led by Deen, a highly experienced and licensed trekking guide who has spent decades organizing and leading unforgettable hiking adventures especially for international travelers. We are 100% local, born and raised in the hill country, and we’ve spent our entire lives exploring the highlands of Sri Lanka.

Based in the heart of the central highlands the island’s premier trekking region we offer a wide range of tailor-made programs to suit all levels of adventure seekers. We specialize in the renowned Pekoe Trail, offering guided treks that span all 22 stages or any custom segment of your choice.

As a fully local and community-rooted organization, our goal is to deliver authentic, nature-based experiences that go far beyond the typical tourist trail. Our treks take you deep into the real Sri Lanka across rolling hills, lush valleys, cascading waterfalls, tea plantations, rice paddies, forest trails, and traditional village paths.
